With the free practice and pré-qualifying session behind us the more serious things are about to start with the first two qualifying session held tonight.
Before that it is time to make a first preliminary balance of the free practice sessions.
With all the teams being put in the F1 pitlane the 24 hours of Spa has more than ever a new and fresh look. For the 8th consectutive time Spa is host of the highlight of the FIA GT championship. Since 2001 Tony Gillet and his creature, the Gillet Vertigo, has always been present in Spa. This year Renaud Kuppens, Bas Leinders and Maxime
Martin will defend the colors of the belgian car.
As usual, the first free practice session this morning and the pré-qualifying session were used to find the right setup on the Vertigo. Maxime martin spent most of the time behind the wheel during FP1 to get to know the car and to take out a maximum
of information about tyre wear and the handling of the car. In the early stages of that session Bas Leinders put in a reasonable 2m32 on the timesheets. As foreseen, Renaud Kuppens didn't come in action.
In the pré-qualifying session, the new name of the second free practice, Bas Leinders did a couple of installation laps before Renaud Kuppens first took the track for what is still a long week-end ahead. Renaud Kuppens was, despite suffering quite a bit of oversteer on the Vertigo, upbeat about the car. We have no problems and we are working on the tyres. During the pré-qualifying we tried to test several types of tyres to see which type of pirreli's suits our car best.
The first qualifying session will take place tonight at 20h30.
